About Tabeer e Nau
In 2018, Swiss architect André Meyerhans initiated the architectural visiting school Tabeer e Nau with his colleague Faisal Arshad, Pakistani architect and professor at COMSATS. The program collaborates with the local community of Gulmit in Upper Hunza, Pakistan, to identify and to address prevailing topics of the village. The visiting school understands itself as an incubator with the intent to propose realizable urban and architectural interventions that are sustainable, conscious of the culture and with a positive socio-economical impact for the population.
Also present at the opening will be Didar Ali who is from Gulmit and plays an active role in prompting and preserving the Wakhi culture and language – the culture of upper Hunza / Gulmit that is. Didar founded the Bulbulik Heritage Center which conserves and promotes traditional Wakhi music and dance. Furthermore, he is CEO of the non-profit organization Mountains & People with which he promotes sustainable tourism, environmental protection and development of modern employment opportunities for young Wakhi people. Didar Ali received the Hillary Medal for conservation of culture and nature in Gilgit-Baltistan earlier this year.
In this role, Ali is one of our key contact persons in Gulmit who works closely with us on the program and content of Tabeer e Nau. Thanks to him, our topics are not only relevant to the local population but also channeled through the local discourse paving the way for realization and making a significant impact for the community.
